Last month, my family and I jetted ourselves off to the sunny Dalmatian Coast of Croatia. And sunny it was – with temperatures reaching 32 degrees, we certainly soaked it all up.
We’ve visited Croatia before, twice. The first time, we went to a beautiful harbour town called Rovinj, then a couple of years later to Pula. This year, we stayed in Makarska – a busier, livelier location with a pebbly beach.
The hotel was lovely. It was right next to the sea, where everything you needed was at your convenience; restaurants, shops and even a night club dotted the coastline.
We went during high season; there were lots of tourists all crowding the beach. At first, we thought it would be too busy for us (we normally enjoy a quiet retreat!), but actually this gave the place a great buzz.
Surrounded by mountains, Makarska really is stunning. They didn’t look real! It was the perfect setting for a holiday retreat.
One of the highlights of this trip was visiting Krka National Park. Wow – it was absolutely gorgeous! A shaded walk took us through breathtaking scenes of cascading waterfalls – we even took a dip at the end!
I’d really recommend visiting here if you’re thinking about going to Croatia.
We also caught a ferry across to the island of Hvar which, again, was beautiful. Built by the Greeks, it had a lot of history to it and this was reflected in the buildings.
All in all, it was such a lovely holiday and I definitely over-indulged myself with lots and lots of food (who said ice-cream??)
I hope I’ll return to Croatia in the future – it’s one of my favourite places and there’s so much more to explore.
Have you been on holiday this year? Let me know what your favourite place to visit is – I need some ideas!!
